Body That Washed Up In Ocean Beach Believed To Be Woman Missing From Point Beach

Body discovered by off-duty lifeguard, Toms River police say

An off-duty Ocean Beach lifeguard was walking on the beach close to midnight on July 30 when he saw something in the breaking waves at the waters edge.

He turned his cell phone light on and realized it was a deceased person. The body is believed to be that of Zuzana Oravcova, 23, a Slovakian woman who was reported missing after she went into the surf after 2 a.m. on Sunday morning with a male companion, said Toms River police department spokesman Ralph Stocco.

An autopsy will be conducted to positively identify the body, he said.

Zuzana Oravcova, 24, was reported missing in Point Pleasant Beach. Oravcova entered the ocean in Point Pleasant Beach with a male companion in the early morning hours of July 30. She never exited the water and an extensive search was conducted with no results.

Representatives from the Point Pleasant Beach Police Department, Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office CSI Unit, and the Ocean County Medical Examiners Officer responded to assist in the investigation, Stocco said. Oravcova and Thomas Kadlec, 23, both from Slovakia, entered the beach shortly after 2 a.m. on Sunday morning and were quickly overwhelmed by the dangerous surf conditions, according to the Point Pleasant Beach police department Facebook page..

Kadlec managed to swim to shore and immediately notified a boardwalk employee, who reported the incident to police.

Police began the search, assisted by the U.S Coast Guard, the New Jersey State Police Marine Unit, fire and first aid companies from Point Pleasant Beach, Bay Head and Mantoloking, dive teams from Point Pleasant Beach, Point Pleasant, Brick, Brielle and Manasquan, and police officers from Bay Head and Mantoloking, the post states.

The National Weather Service had issued a warning on Sunday advising residents and visitor not to swim, because of "dangerous and life-threatening conditions."
