Central Students To Make Up Day Lost In May On Saturday, June 9
Schools closed early on May 4 due to power outage, day must be made up, superintendent says

BAYVILLE, NJ Central Regional students will have to attend a half day of school on Saturday, June 9 to make up for the day when schools had to close early due to a power outage, schools Superintendent Triantafillos Parlapanides said.
Neither Central Regional High School or the Middle School received the required 240 minutes of instruction on May 4, so the day needs to be made up, he said.
The half day on Saturday had to be selected because graduation dates for the high school, middle school and the Berkeley Township school district had already been set in advance, Parlapanides said

The Middle School graduation is at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 15 in the high school gymnasium. The high school graduation is at 6 p.m. on June 18 on the football field, he said.
The school hours for Saturday, June 9 will be for a half day. The middle school hours are from 8:40 a.m. to 1:20 p.m. and the high school hours are from 7:40 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. The pick-up time for students on Saturday, June 9 will be the same as a regular abbreviated day schedule for both the middle school and high school. Lunch will be served on both days, Parlapanides said.

The graduation date for the high school must be 180 days, so students could not graduate on June 18 and pick up diplomas on June 19.
"Having the make-up day on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 would cause a change in the dates of graduation," Parlapanides said. "People are coming from out of state, graduation parties are set, and it would also move Berkeley Township Elementary graduation, which is using the high school gymnasium on Tuesday, June 19, 2018.
