Coast Guard Investigating Cause Of Sunken Boat In Lacey

Coast Guard and State Police investigating cause of boat that sank off Varuna Drive

LACEY TOWNSHIP, NJ - Lacey police recently responded to a report of a docked sailboat off the 1200 block of Varuna Drive that was almost completely submerged, Police Chief Michael C. DiBella said.

Officer Patrick Watkins responded to the Lanoka Harbor home at 6:50 p.m. on March 23. The Lanoka Harbor Fire Department and a representative from the Berkeley Township Hazmat Team were at the scene. The Hazmat Team member determined that the scene was safe and deemed it a "clean sinking," the chief said.

The investigation was turned over to the US Coast Guard and the New Jersey State Police. The owner of the boat was notified, DiBella said.
