Coastal Ocean Beach Weather Report For June 16, 2017

Rough surf and a moderate risk of rip currents are expected today, so please don't swim on unguarded beaches.

The National Weather Service is calling for cloudy skies, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms, making for a crummy beach day.

There is a moderate risk of rip currents today. Please do not swim on unguarded beaches. There was a tragedy in Belmar late Thursday when a local elementary school girl drowned swimming on an unguarded beach. Even if you are swimming on a guarded beach, check with local beach patrols first. Always swim with sight of a lifeguard and don't swim alone or at night. The NWS suggests you have a flotation device with you whenever you go in.

Waves will be higher than they have been for some time, at five to six feet, with easterly swells of four feet. The surf temperature is 66 degrees.
