Cops: Berkeley Man Charged With DWI After Hitting Parked Cars

The township man admitted to having a few drinks before the accident, police chief says

BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, NJ A Chain Boulevard man who admitted he'd been drinking before his Chevy Equinox crashed into several parked vehicles on his street has been charged with driving while intoxicated, Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele said.

Patrolman Michael Drybola and Patrolman Thomas Eichen responded to the 100 block of the street on a report of a motor vehicle crash involving several parked vehicles on April 14. When they arrived they found the 2013 black Equinox parked in the roadway with body damage, the chief said.

The officers reported that James Dunkin Jr., 31 admitted to hitting the vehicles while he was trying make his way home. He was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after he completed standardized field sobriety tests, DiMichele said.

Dunkin was taken to police headquarters, where he was also charged with reckless driving and failure to maintain lane, the chief said.

He was released to the care of a family member. His vehicle was impounded as per John’s Law.
