County GOP Taps Lacey's Quinn To Run For Freeholder

Quinn will take the place of Freeholder John C. Bartlett Jr., who is ill and decided not to run for another term.

TOMS RIVER – Longtime Lacey Township Committeeman Gary Quinn will replace ailing GOP Freeholder John C. Bartlett Jr. on the Nov. 6 ballot in the race for the two available seats on the Board of Freeholders this year.

Quinn was selected from a field of 10 hopefuls at a special GOP convention Wednesday night. Quinn will run with Freeholder Gerry P. Little. Some of the other hopefuls included Plumsted Mayor Jack Trotta, Pine Beach Mayor Lawrence W. Cuneo, South Toms River Mayor Oscar L. Cradle Sr., Barnegat Township Committeeman John J. Novak, Stafford Township Councilwoman Sharon McKenna and Berkeley Township Councilman James J. Byrnes, according to a report in app.com.

Bartlett announced last week that he would not run for another term and would instead devote his time to concentrate on fighting the colorectal cancer that has plagued him for several years.

Bartlett, who is the freeholder deputy director this year, is the longest-serving freeholder in New Jersey. He has served on the board since 1980, oceancounty.gov says.

It's been Bartlett who configured the county budget each year and Bartlett who has presided over the county parks and recreation department.
