A Creepy Find At Island Beach State Park

Ocean Gate woman discovers a strange fish on the beach at state park.

ISLAND BEACH STATE PARK, NJ - Island Beach State Park has always been Stephanie Hall's "happy place."

And when the skies turned warm and sunny on Wednesday, the Ocean Gate woman decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather and headed over to the popular state park for a run.

She jogged over to the area near Bathing Beach 1 and spotted a baby seal soaking in the sun. She didn't want to disturb it, so she walked a little higher on the beach.

"I kept jogging," she said. "I turned around, and lo and behold, I saw the creature lying there."

It was a six-foot long something with a red belly, the likes of which Hall had never seen before.

It was a fish, but nothing she recognized. She described it as lizard-like. At first she thought it was a reptile

"I took some pictures," she said. "I couldn't figure out what it was. It was definitely a monster."

She asked a few fisherman on the beach. One of them told her he thought it was an Atlantic sturgeon.

Hall was so fascinated by whatever it was, she plans on going back this weekend.
