High Rip Current Risk Today In Ocean County: National Weather Service

Dangerous and potentially life-threatening conditions along the Jersey Shore, NWS says

If you're thinking about going swimming in the ocean today, don't.

The National Weather Service is predicting a high risk of rip currents today. That means there are dangerous and potentially life-threatening conditions for anyone who goes in the water.

"People visiting the beaches should stay out of the high surf," the NWS says.

It's the second day in a row the NWS has issued the warning and just a few days after several people drowned along the Jersey coast.

Waves will be very high today, at five to six feet, with easterly swells around two feet. The surf temperature is still a chilly 68 degrees.

Skies will be partly sunny today, with highs in the lowers 80s. Winds will be from the south at 15 to 20 miles per hour.

The ultraviolet index is a 10, which the NWS considers very high. There is no lightning threat.

High tide at Barnegat Inlet rolled in at 2:30 a.m. Low tide will arrive at 9:07 a.m., followed by another high tide at 3:16 p.m.
