National Weather Service Issues Fire Weather Watch For Monday

Gusty winds, very low humidity make for critical fire conditions today

SOUTHERN OCEAN COUNTY, NJ - The National Weather Service has issued a fire weather watch for today in Southern Ocean County that could lead to critical fire weather conditions.

Gusty northwest winds of 15 to 20 miles per hour, with possible gusts up to 30, combined with very low relative humidity of 25 percent and low fuel moisture will make conditions ripe for the development of enhanced fire spread, the NWS says.

The watch is in effect from 10 a.m, through 10 p.m. on Monday for sections of southern Ocean County.

"A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur due to a combination of strong winds...low relative humidities...and dry fuels," the NWS says. "Listen for later forecasts and possible Red Flag Warnings."
