Ocean County Beaches Bring Relief From Mainland Heat

OCEAN COUNTY, NJ – While temperatures simmer in the 90s on the mainland, it will be about 10 degrees cooler at the beach today.

Highs today will be in the mid 80s, compared to the 90s inland, the National Weather Service says.

Still, the NWS has issued a heat advisory for all of Ocean County, due to the combination of high temperatures and high humidity levels. But the end is mercifully in sight. By the weekend, temperatures will only be in the low 80s.

Skies will be mostly sunny, with some patchy fog. Winds will be from the south at 10 miles per hour. The lightning threat is low, which means there is little chance of thunderstorms.

There's a low chance of rip currents today. But that doesn't mean rips can't still occur, especially near jetties and other structures. Only swim on a guarded beach and never swim alone or at night. Lifeguards in some areas have already made numerous water rescues due to rips. The NWS suggests you use a flotation device when you head in the water.

Waves will be around 2 feet today, with light swells. The ocean water temperature is 73 degrees.

The ultraviolet index is a 9, which the NWS considers very high. So slather on the sunscreen.

Low tide at Barnegat Inlet arrived at 6:01 a.m. High tide will roll in at 12:01 p.m., followed by another low tide at 5:57 p.m.
