A Scorcher Ahead, Even At Ocean County Beaches

Low rip current risk, fairly calm seas, National Weather Service says

OCEAN COUNTY, NJ - The beach may be the only place where you can find some kind of relief from the brutal heat today. And tomorrow. And Tuesday.

But it won't be much of a break. The high today will be around 90 degrees. Skies will be sunny. No rain in sight, so there's no lightning threat. Winds will be from the west at 5 miles per hour.

The rip current risk is low. But rips can still occur anytime, especially near jetties and other structures. It'a July 1, so it should be easy to find a guarded beach. Never swim on an unguarded beach and never swim alone or at night. Don't be a statistic this summer.

Waves today will be around 2 feet, with southeasterly swells of 2 feet. The ocean water temperature has quickly warmed up 74 degrees.

The ultraviolet index is a 9, which the NWS considers very high. Don't forget the sunscreen, unless you want to suffer later on.
