Seaside Heights Man Charged With Murder In Death Of Roommate

Matthew Demartin, 37, charged in the death of Sharon Falcetano, Prosecutor's Office says

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, NJ - Less than a day after Sharon Falcetano was pronounced dead in her Lincoln Avenue motel room, authorities have charged her apparent roommate with her murder, a spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said.

Matthew Demartin, 37, was arrested today and is being held in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River pending his first appearance, spokesman Al Della Fave said.

Police responded a 911 call at 11:19 p.m. on Thursday at the Glendale Motel. They found Falcetano unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:43 p.m., he said.

Seaside Heights police found Demartin several blocks away and charged him with possession of marijuana. The Prosecutor's Office "fast-tracked" the autopsy this morning to confirm Falcetano's death was a homicide, Della Fave said.

An autopsy done Friday morning determined that Falcetano died of multiple blunt force trauma injuries to her head and body. Her death has been ruled a homicide, Della Fave said.

Both Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato and Seaside Heights Police Chief Thomas Boyd commended the investigators for such a quick arrest.

Detectives from the Prosecutor's Office's Major Crimes Unit, the Seaside Heights Police Department and the Ocean County Sheriff's Department's Criminal Investigations Unit conducted the investigation.
