Sunny Skies, Calm Seas Ahead For Ocean County Beaches

There's a low risk of rip currents today, but the ultraviolet index is very high, National Weather Service says

OCEAN COUNTY, NJ - The National Weather Service is calling for sunny skies and cool temperatures at Ocean County beaches today.

Highs today will be in the mid 70s. Winds will be from the northwest at 5 miles per hour, switching to the south at 10 miles per hour in the afternoon.

There's a low risk of rip currents today. But rips can always occur, especially near jetties and other structures. There are some guarded beaches on weekends, but do your homework and find out where there are. Several people had to be rescued from Island Beach State Park earlier this weeks after they were caught in a rip current. Never swim on an unguarded beach and never swim alone or at night.

Waves today will be around 2 feet, with southeast swells of 2 feet. The ocean water temperature is 65 degrees, still chilly, but warmer than earlier this week.

The ultraviolet index is a 9, which the NWS considers very high. So bring the sunscreen if you want to work on your tan.
