Sunny Skies, Calm Seas Ahead For Ocean County Beaches

OCEAN COUNTY, NJ - The beach will be the place to be, with the massive heat wave looming over us for the next few days.

The National Weather Service is calling for sunny skies, with highs in the mid 80s. Temperatures on the mainland will be close to 90. Winds will be from the north at 5 miles per hour, shifting to the south in the afternoon.

There's a low risk of rip currents today. But rips can still occur anytime, especially near jetties and other structures. The Harvey Cedars beach patrol made six water rescues on Friday. Never swim on an unguarded beach and never swim alone or at night. Don't be a statistic this summer. Most beaches are guarded this time of year, so find one that is.

Waves will be around 3 feet, dropping to 2 feet in the afternoon, with southeasterly swells of 2 feet. The ocean water temperature has warmed up to 71 degrees.

The ultraviolet index is a 10, which the National Weather Service considers very high. It doesn't get any higher than a 10, so bring the sunscreen. There is no lightning threat today.

High tide at Barnegat Inlet will arrive at 9:58 a.m. Low tide will roll in at 3:58 p.m., followed by another high tide at 10:07 p.m.
