Numerous fights, drunken patrons reported on scanner news sites

The Seaside Heights beach cam still showed police cars parked on the boardwalk after 1 a.m.
"The boardwalk was crowded last night due to some type of social media event which occurred in Seaside Park," Seaside Heights Detective Steven Korman said today. "Additional agencies assisted with crowd control. "Other than that... there was nothing newsworthy in Seaside Heights to report."

The Ocean County Regional SWAT team was on standby. The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, the Ocean County Sheriff's Department, and the Toms River and Lavallette police departments also responded, Korman said.
"Chief Boyd (Seaside Heights Police Chief Thomas Boyd) chooses to have the right resources in place to ensure a quick response, " Korman said. "Public safely is his main priority."

Several Facebook scanner sites reported multiple disturbances including fights and drunken patrons on the boardwalk for several hours on Saturday night.
Boyd and Ocean County Sheriff Michael G. Mastronardy both confirmed there were fights.
Boyd said his department had sent officers and resources to Seaside Park to assist with crowd control. He described the situation as “a mess,” to app.com. due to the number of fights among patrons.

The Seaside Heights Police Department was in contact with the person behind the social media post, Boyd said.
The event was circulated by thousands of social media users under the hashtag BeachNik or BeachNik18, according to nj.com
