Bicyclist Arrested In Seaside Heights After Not Having Bell: Cops

Bayville man charged with obstruction and resisting arrest after police stopped him. A video shows the arrest.

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, NJ Seaside Heights police recently arrested a Bayville man who they said was "acting suspiciously" while riding a bike without a bell and going to several houses known for criminal activity, Detective Steven Korman said.

Patrolmen Robert Spadaro and Adam Greengrove observed Raymond Wilson, 32, Frederick Drive, and charged him with failure to have an audible signal, obstruction and resisting arrest, at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 5, Korman said.

When officers stopped Wilson and began to speak with him, Wilson obstructed the officers' attempt, and told them “I don’t need to talk to you," then rode away from officers, Korman said.

When police caught up with Wilson, he became irate, and swung his arms, and resisted arrest. He was taken to police headquarters, processed and released pending a municipal court date, Korman said.

"The suspicious activity brought attention to him and then the officers noticed that he didn’t have a bell on the bike," Korman told Patch. "So they then stopped him. It was obviously combination of both."

Wilson has claimed in a video he was only stopped because of the lack of a bell. But Korman said that is not the case. Here is the video, which was posted on youtube.
