Bloomfield Schools Receive 2.5 Percent Increase in State Aid

Following the down vote this week on a controversial budget, New Jersey officials announced that the Bloomfield school district will receive $500,000 more in state aid than in the 2012-2013 budget.

The Bloomfield School Board will hold an emergency meeting on Tuesday, March 5 to discuss the budget. It is not known what impact the state aid announcement will have on that discussion.

According to an announcement from Governor Chris Christie’s office, the state has issued a  $97.3 million increase in education aid overall. In a statement, the Governor’s office noted that it is the third year in a row of increases in education funding and that on average, districts across the state will receive an increase of $75 per pupil. All districts will receive an increase in K-12 formula aid or maintain flat funding from the previous school year.
