Brookdale School Parents Celebrate New Playground

After years of fundraising, Brookdale Elementary School finally got a new playground.

Parents and supporters were thrilled to host the ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, March 15. The event attracted local luminaries including Board of education members, Bloomfield Mayor Raymond McCarthy and town council members.

Jody Polidoro, Chairperson for the Brookdale School Playground Committee, related how Brookdale School’s quest for a playground began with a grant from Home Depot before picking up speed two years ago thanks to a group of kindergarten parents held several successful fundraisers.

"For the parents who cleaned out their closets twice to donate clothes to our clothing drive, for those who bought a poinsettia at our holiday plant sale, and sold Charitymania tickets to their family and friends, we thank you," Polidoro said in a speech at the ribbon cutting.  

In addition to parents, Polidoro recognized township residents and businesses for donations, including Hot Bagels Abroad and Brookdale Shoprite and noted that Gametime, the manufacturer of the playground, reduced the price because the president of the corporation is an alumnus of Brookdale School and Artistic Fence Company discounted the fence. 

"Since the weather has turned warmer, the kids have already played on the playground and hearing their laughter, excitement, and their happiness that they finally have a playground are why we are here today," Polidoro said.
