Group Advocating Legalizing Raising Hens in Bloomfield Meets Next Month
Advocates say raising chickens is important step towards sustainability.
A group looking to change Bloomfield's laws to let people raise chickens on their own property is meeting next month at the Bloomfield College Library.
In a press release, the group says that while Bloomfield's ordinances prohibit the raising chickens, they believe that raising hens offers a number of benefits for local communities.
The group notes that hens can be fed food scraps and garden waste such as weeds and overgrowth while providing nitrogen-rich compost throught their droppings. In addition, they say that hens can provide natural pest control by consuming grubs and insects.
