Newark Man Identified as One of Two Killed in Fiery Belleville Tractor Trailer Crash, Bloomfield Man Also Involved
A 26-year-old Newark man was one of two killed Nov. 3 when a tractor trailer collided with two cars on Route 21. The trucker was uninjured.

Jonathan Fontenot, 26, of Newark has been identified as one of the victims killed in a fatal multi-vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer on Route 21 in Belleville on Monday night.
Two people were killed when a tractor trailer collided with a 2013 Dodge Dart and 2004 Chevy Cavalier, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Belleville Police Chief Joseph Rotonda announced in a statement today.
The Belleville Police and Fire departments were the first responders to the scene of the accident, where they discovered the multi-vehicle crash, the prosecutor’s office stated.

PIX 11 reported that officials at the scene stated that the tractor trailer landed on one of the vehicles, which burst into flames shortly after impact.
The 48-year-old truck driver did not sustain any injuries in the crash. The driver of the Dodge Dart, a 27-year-old man from Bloomfield, was also uninjured in the fatal crash, according to the Essex County Prosecutor Murray.

The passenger and the driver in the Chevy Cavalier were pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim has not been identified, as of Thursday afternoon.
The prosecutor’s office stated that the incident occurred on Nov. 3 at 7:25 p.m. on Rt. 21 southbound near milepost 6.4. The Belleville Police and Fire Departments responded to the area on reports of a multi-vehicle crash. The first responders reported that they discovered that three vehicles, a tractor trailer and two passenger vehicles were involved.
“At this time, the investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed against anyone in connection with the crash,” Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Fennelly told the press on Thursday.
