Nine New Port Authority Cops Fired After Drunken Antics at North Jersey Bar, Reports Say

Members of the 113th graduating class who celebrated at the North Jersey bar in August, were fired for their drunk and disorderly behavior.

A turbulent graduation celebration-gone-wrong has led to the firing of nine rookie Port Authority Police Officers who became drunk and wreaked havoc at a Hoboken Bar in August, according to reports.

Three supervisors are also in hot water after the incident, which occurred at Texas Arizona in Hoboken on August 22, following the graduation of the academy’s 113th graduating class – the largest in the academy’s history, NJ.com reports.

According to reports by the New York Post, the bartender at Texas Arizona called Hoboken Police after the PABA cops, who were still in uniform, became out of control. The rookie police officers were seen pouring their own drinks behind the bar, touching a woman’s rear end inappropriately, recording the antics on their cell phones, and flashing their newly minted badges to excuse their behavior after bartenders threatened to call the police, the Post reported.

Following a nearly three-month-long investigation, the Port Authority General’s Office announced on Friday that the nine new officers, who were on probationary status, have been terminated, NJ.com reported. The incident has led the Port Authority Police Academy to reassess candidate screening and training practices at the academy.

“We are extremely disappointed by the conduct of the probationary officers involved and appalled by the poor judgment of the Academy staff members in attendance,” Port Authority Executive Director Patrick Foye expressed in a statement to ABC News.

Three other Port Authority Police officers who were also on probation will suffer an unpaid 30-day suspension, and two veteran officers are facing undisclosed disciplinary action, Port Authority stated to NJ.com. New officers who are on probationary status are not afforded the same administrative or union rights as officers who have been on the force for a longer period of time.

Do you agree that the rookie officers should be terminated for the incident at Texas Arizona? What sort of punishment should the veteran officers face? Sound off in the comments.
