St. Thomas the Apostle School JV Girls Win GIL Championship

Girls cap off 15-1 season with championship victory.

At the end of the playoffs, the St. Thomas the Apostle School JV Girls record for the season was 15 wins and 1 loss.

They finished first in the league for the season and seeded #1 in the playoffs. They beat Aquinas 31-11 in the 1st round. St Joe’s 33-19 in the second round. And finally on Sunday, they beat Good Shepard of Nutley 29-14 to win the league championship.

Throughout the year, they played a total of 23 games including an exhibition game at the Prudential Center in Newark where they bested St. Phillips. They won the STA Sponsored Annual Christmas Tournament beating St. Catherine’s in the finals 26-24 and followed up that victory with a win in the February Frenzy Tournament at Our Lady of Sorrows in South Orange. They beat St. Patrick’s in the final game 31-13.

“For one very special season, 14 talented girls got together, set a goal,worked hard and achieved the ultimate, a near perfect record and a Coveted Basketball Championship,” Coach Carl Sartori said in an email.
