"I made the decision prior to the election that if I won it would be time to retire so I could devote myself to the people of Brick," Crate said. "I knew the demands of continuing to do both jobs and having time with my family would be too much, and I really want to be available and working during the day in Brick."

Crate has been an educator for 31 years. She had worked as the librarian and media specialist at Christa McAuliffe Middle School in Jackson and was the president of the Jackson Township Education Association.
