BRICK, NJ — Ever since the owners of Icarus Brewing announced their plans to move their brewery to Brick Township, Steve and Denise Vetter have been eyeing the possibility of expanding Burger 25.

That possibility has taken a step toward reality, as the Vetters have signed a deal with the brewery to occupy part of the space at the new Icarus Brewing location in Brick.

They announced the coming expansion on the restaurant's Facebook page on Christmas morning: "Santa worked his magic again! This year, he brought Denise a third location, and you know what they say – third time’s a charm! Especially when the charm involves our incredible neighbors at Icarus Brewing Co. See you in Spring 2024, BRICK!"

Icarus Brewing is in the process of building its new brewery at the former Shore Restaurant Supply site on Route 88 — a project approved by the Brick Township Planning Board in August 2021. Part of its plans for its 20,000-square-foot building include a space that can be rented by a company that sells food — something Icarus cannot do under New Jersey's laws governing microbreweries.

Burger 25 has agreed to rent 4,000 square feet of space from Icarus to bring its popular burgers, fries and shakes to Brick, Steve Vetter said Monday.

"We definitely wanted to expand to another location and thought Icarus would be perfect," Vetter said, adding he and his wife, Denise, had been aware of Icarus's plan to include a food retail site since it was first announced.

"We love Icarus," he said, and added that they were in contact with the owners of the brewery from very early on.

While in discussions about Brick, Burger 25 opened its second location in Ship Bottom on Long Beach Island in June. But when the Brick opportunity arose, they didn't hesitate, Vetter said.

"It just makes so much sense to be there," he said. "Our brands complement each other perfectly. Our restaurant is a BYOB. It's just a match made in heaven scenario."

The restaurant will have 99 seats, Vetter said, and patrons will be able to bring beer from Icarus in or carry food to the brewery.

Vetter said a firm opening date hasn't been set because they still have to go through the permitting process with Brick.

Burger 25 first launched in 2013, offering an array of burgers, fries and shakes, including classic cheeseburgers and hamburgers along with their "burger of the month". Their menu now includes more than 20 combinations of burgers, including a bison burger and one that offers lettuce in place of the standard bun. There are chicken sandwiches, onion rings, loaded fries and monthly shake offerings in addition to regular chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. They even have a dog menu.
