Friends Rally To Help Brick Mom Battling Breast Cancer
Joey Marie Ferranti was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer and needs a double mastectomy; she has no insurance.

BRICK, NJ — Friends of a Brick Township woman are raising funds to help her and her family as she battles an aggressive form of breast cancer.
Joey Marie Ferranti was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year, her sister said in a GoFundMe campaign. The form of breast cancer is high-grade DCIS with comedo necrosis, her sister wrote.
"The cancer is Stage 0 which is a relief but we found out it’s Grade 3 which is aggressive," Jacqueline Domingues wrote. "We found out her right breast had been taken hostage by a mass, and our hopes for a simple lumpectomy were dashed. Joey will need a double mastectomy."

The diagnosis comes as the Ferranti family has been fighting with their insurance company and found out they do not have health insurance, Domigues wrote. "Joey is a full-time mommy to three little ones and although Vito’s work is seasonal, he will be needing to take time off to care for Joey and the kids."
The GoFundMe had raised nearly $15,000 as of 5 p.m. Tuesday. To donate visit the GoFundMe campaign.

In addition to the GoFundMe, friends and members of Tiger Schulmann's Martial Art studio in Brick will be holding a fundraiser on June 22 at the studio, 905 Route 70. That event is scheduled for 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and includes a bake sale and raffle baskets.
Ferranti has been a member of Tiger Schulmann's since 2020, her friend Maria Fratello said.
Fratello said that in addition to the bake sale and raffle, T-shirts are being made to raise additional funds. The T-shirts are available for order until 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, through the school.
