BRICK, NJ — You may have seen their truck at a local festival: SnowChi Peruvian Cuisine, serving up Peruvian specialties at sites around Ocean County.

Now the owners of the truck Gianella and Andrew Kaplan, have found a permanent place to serve customers.

Beginning Nov. 6, SnowChi will be open at 1990 Route 88 in Brick. It's the little triangle of land sandwiched between Route 88 and Old Squan Road, right near St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church.

It was a "pain" finding a location but they were eager for SnowChi to finally have a spot of its own, said Gianella Kaplan, who was born in Lima, Peru, but moved to the United States as a child.

SnowChi launched in October 2023. It was the culmination of Kaplan's love of cooking combined with the support and encouragement from her family. Its menu includes authentic Peruvian cuisine, including empanadas, pan con chicharron (a pork sandwich) Lomo Saltado, Arroz Chaufa, SnowChi’s Chicken Sandwich, Papa Rellena and varieties of salchipapas and salichipollos, which is hot dogs served over French fries covered with options of Peruvian sauces or go classic with simply ketchup, mayo and mustard with a side of shredded lettuce.

"My husband and I are gamers and can be very nerdy," Kaplan said. "We don't want to focus on just serving Peruvian food but also have people get to know us through our food."
