BRICK, NJ — Changes are coming to Brick Plaza, after the Brick Township Board of Adjustment approved plans by the chicken restaurant Raising Cane's to tear down an existing building and replace it with a new one.

A resolution memorializing the approval is on the agenda at Wednesday's zoning board meeting for a final OK, usually a formality in the zoning process.

According to the resolution, the existing 8,148-square-foot building that housed Quaker Steak and Lube will be torn down. In its place will be built a 3,333-square-foot restaurant with two full-access driveways connected to Cedar Bridge Avenue. There will be a two-lane drive-through and 37 parking spaces, including two that are ADA compliant, and two spaces to accommodate electric vehicles.

The changes to the site will reduce the amount of impervious coverage, meaning less area will have concrete or asphalt and more will be open ground for rain to seep in.

A timetable on when it will open was not immediately available.

Raising Cane's was listed as a new tenant on the Federal Realty site in late July 2024. Company representatives have not responded to Patch messages seeking comment.

The fast-food chicken chain, based in Louisiana, began opening locations in New Jersey in 2023 in Burlington County, including Burlington, Cherry Hill and Marlton. The Brick location will be the first in Ocean County.

The chain's specialties include chicken fingers (with signature Cane's sauce), chicken sandwiches, crinkle-cut fries, Texas toast and sweet tea.
