Smoking Roof Unit At Route 88 Business Sets Off Fire Alarm In Brick

The alarm prompted a large response from Brick fire companies, officials said.

BRICK, NJ — A malfunctioning roof unit at a commercial property caused smoke that set off a fire alarm on Tuesday, a Brick Township fire official said

The incident at commercial site on Route 88 near the intersection with Jordan Road set off the fire alarm at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, said Richard Orlando, the assistant chief of the Brick Township Fire Safety Bureau.

The unit sent smoke throughout the building, prompting a large initial response until it was determined there was no fire, he said.

There was no one in the building at the time and there were no injuries, Orlando said.
