Armed Robbery At ATM, Man With Gun Follows Woman To Car In Somerset County: Prosecutor

BOUND BROOK, NJ — A Bound Brook man was arrested in connection with an armed robbery of a woman at an ATM in the borough on Dec. 28, 2025.
Steven P. Loureiro, 40, of Bound Brook, was charged with first-degree armed robbery and second-degree eluding.
On Dec. 28, 2025, at around 1:05 p.m., a 911 call reported an unknown problem in the area of West Union Avenue in Bound Brook.

Bound Brook Police officers spoke with a woman who reported that after withdrawing money from an ATM in the area, she returned to her vehicle.
The victim reported that she was then approached by a man armed with a black handgun, trying to get inside her vehicle, said Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald.

"The man was allegedly banging on her window and pointing the firearm at her. The victim said she was afraid for her life and ran from her vehicle," said McDonald.
The man went into her vehicle and stole around $800 in cash as well as the victim’s wallet and personal identification, said McDonald.
The victim described the man as wearing a hooded sweatshirt, black pants with white stripes, and a bandana across his face.
Bound Brook Police Detectives determined that the suspect was driving a Subaru wagon with tinted windows and a missing hubcap.
On Dec. 31, 2025, a similar car matching the description was spotted in Bound Brook.
A Bound Brook patrol officer tried to stop the Subaru. The driver of the vehicle fled from police, driving erratically, heading towards Interstate 287, said McDonald.
Bound Brook police officers stopped the chasefor safety reasons.
Detectives were able to later locate the Subaru in a parking lot in Piscataway.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Loureiro, was taken into custody without incident and taken to the Bound Brook Police Department.
A Superior Court search warrant was executed at Loureiro’s home in Bound Brook. Clothing matching the description of the clothing worn during the armed robbery, and an imitation firearm were found and seized as evidence, said McDonald.
On Dec. 31, 2025, Loureiro was charged and lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing on this matter.
