2 Hospitalized, Truck Crashes, Overturns In Woods On I-78 Ramp In Somerset County

BEDMINSTER, NJ — A crash with injuries and an overturned truck with entrapment was reported on an Interstate 78 West ramp on Friday morning.

At 5:59 a.m. Far Hills-Bedminster Fire Department was dispatched to Interstate 287 South express lanes at milepost 20.6 in Bridgewater Township off the I-78 West ramp for the crash with entrapment.

Based on a preliminary investigation, an Acura passenger vehicle and a tractor-trailer were traveling south on I-287 from the I-78 west ramp, said New Jersey State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron.

In the area of milepost 20.6, the driver of the Acura lost directional control, veered off the roadway, hit the guardrail, re-entered the roadway, and collided with the tractor-trailer, said Lebron.

The tractor-trailer then veered off the roadway, went up an embankment, and overturned.

Arriving Far Hills-Bedminster fire crews along with Green Knoll Fire Department worked to clear trees and extricate one person from the overturned box truck into the woods.

Both drivers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a local hospital. The crash remains under investigation, and no additional information is available at this time.
