Garage Fire Sparks On Bitter Cold Night In Bridgewater

The family, who were home when the fire started, was unable to stay overnight due to damage on Monday night.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A Bridgewater family was displaced following a garage fire that sparked on Monday night.

Just after 10 p.m., the Martinsville Volunteer Fire Department was called to a home off Blazier Road in Bridgewater for a fire.

Firefighters found just a light haze of smoke when they first arrived, said Bill Rose with the Martinsville Fire Department.

"It was a challenge to find and root out the fire," said Rose.

Additionally, the frigid temperatures and snow added an extra obstacle.

Firefighters ended up finding the fire in the ceiling of the garage, which extended into the room above the garage.

The fire was extinguished, and firefighters were able to leave a couple of hours later.

Along with Martinsville, fire departments from Warren, Liberty Corner, Bound Brook, Finderne, Far Hills-Bedminster, and North Branch came to help. Martinsville First Aid Squad, Bridgewater Police, and Bridgewater OEM also helped.

The home had damage to the structure and was deemed uninhabitable.

The Bridgewater Fire Marshall is investigating the cause of the fire.
