DWI Wrong Way Driver Crashes Into Car On Route 202, Traps Both Drivers: Readington Police

Both trapped drivers had to be rescued and then taken to a hospital with injuries on Thursday night, said police.

READINGTON, NJ — A Flemington man was charged after police say he was driving under the influence of alcohol in the wrong direction on Route 202 before crashing into an oncoming car on Thursday night, said Readington Township Police.

On Thursday at around 9:11 p.m., the Readington Township Police Department and the Whitehouse Rescue Squad responded to a motor vehicle crash with reported multiple injuries on Route 202 near Summer Road.

Officers determined that a Nissan Murano, driven by Pedro Ramos-Santos of Flemington, was driving north in the southbound lanes of Route 202 approaching Summer Road when it hit a Chrysler 300 sedan, said police.

The Whitehouse Rescue Squad extricated both drivers from their vehicles. Each was taken to a regional trauma center with non-life-threatening injuries.

An investigation found that Ramos-Santos was operating under the influence of alcohol, said police.

Ramos-Santos was charged with driving while intoxicated, third-degree assault by auto, careless driving, reckless driving, wrong way on a one-way street, traffic on marked lanes, and failure to keep right.

Helping at the scene were the Raritan Township Police Department, Three Bridges Fire Company, and the Readington Fire Company.

The crash remains under investigation by the RTPD Traffic Safety Unit. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Michael Columbo at 908-534-4031.
