Family, Dog Escape After Overheated Toaster Sparks House Fire In Bridgewater
Due to the extent of the damage on Thursday night, the home was deemed uninhabitable, according to Bridgewater Police.
BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A toaster is to blame for a house fire in Bridgewater on Thursday night, according to police.
On Thursday at around 4:26 p.m., the Bridgewater Police Department and volunteer firefighters responded to a reported structure fire at 533 Rolling Hills Road in Bridgewater.
First responders found heavy smoke coming from the second floor of the home. All occupants were safely outside upon arrival, said Bridgewater Police Sgt. Kevin Florczak.

An initial investigation determined that the fire began in the kitchen.
According to the homeowner, the fire began when a toaster overheated and ignited a small fire. The fire then spread to a nearby straw broom and the wall behind the appliance.

The homeowner tried to put out the fire with water but was unsuccessful. The residents safely evacuated the home with their dog before calling 911, said Florczak.
Multiple fire departments, including Bradley Gardens Volunteer Fire Company and North Branch Volunteer Fire Company, responded and were able to bring the fire under control without further incident. No injuries were reported.
Bridgewater Fire Marshal Xavier Alvarado confirmed the cause of the fire was accidental, resulting from the toaster.
Due to the extent of the damage, the residence was deemed uninhabitable.
