Somerset County Soccer Coach Assaults 16-Year-Old Player: Police
Gustavo Rosas Plata of North Plainfield was charged with simple assault (in the presence of a child under 16 at a youth sports event).
NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ — A North Plainfield soccer coach was arrested for assaulting a 16-year-old player during a game, said authorities.
Gustavo Rosas Plata of North Plainfield was charged on Nov. 18 with fourth-degree simple assault (in the presence of a child under 16 years of age at a school or community-sponsored youth sports event).
The alleged assault happened on Oct. 19, during a soccer match between North Plainfield Soccer Elite and Elizabeth Youth Soccer at the Warinanco Sports Center in Roselle.

During this game, a 16-year-old player from the Elizabeth team fell to the ground near the sideline and it was alleged that the coach of the North Plainfield team then kicked the player, according to Union County officials.
Officers from the Union County Police Department investigated and arrested Plata. He was processed and released pending a court date in the superior court.
