Route 202 Closures Expected This Week For Median Improvement Project

BRANCHBURG, NJ - Drivers can expect Route 202 to have closures on Tuesday and Wednesday as a median improvement project advances in Branchburg.

Tuesday

From 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, the left lane on Route 202 northbound is scheduled to be closed at the intersection of Old York Road/CR 637, near the Branchburg Police Department to remove construction barrier and install construction barrels.

Earlier Monday, the construction barrier on Route 202 southbound at the intersection was removed and replaced with construction barrels.

Wednesday

From 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Route 202 is scheduled to have a single lane closed in both directions to restripe the road to shift traffic back to the original configuration following the completion of work in the median.

The next phase of the project includes drainage improvements.

The left turn lanes in both directions from Route 202 to Old York Road/CR 637 and the U-Turn ramps will remain closed and detoured. The following detours will remain in place:

Route 202 northbound U-turn or Left Turn to Old York Road/CR 637 northbound Detour:

- Motorists on Route 202 northbound wishing to turn left onto Old York Road/CR 637 northbound will be directed to continue on Route 202 northbound

- Take the Milltown Road exit

- Turn left onto Milltown Road

- Turn left onto Route 202 southbound

- Turn right onto Old York Road/CR 637 northbound

Route 202 southbound Left Turn to Old York Road/CR 637 southbound Detour:

- Motorists on Route 202 southbound wishing to turn left onto Old York Road/CR 637 will be directed to turn left onto North Branch River Road, which is approximately one mile north of (before) the Old York Road/CR 637 Intersection, back to old York Road/CR 567

Route 202 southbound U-turn to Route 202 northbound Detour:

- Motorists on Route 202 southbound wishing to take the jughandle to make a U-turn onto Route 202 northbound will be directed to take the jughandle before the Robbins Road/Kenbury Road Intersection, which is approximately a half mile north of (before) the Old York Road/CR 637 Intersection

- Or take the jughandle before the Holland-Brook Road Intersection, which is approximately 1.5 miles south of (past) the Old York Road/CR 637 Intersection

This work is part of the $2.6 million state-funded project that will make operational and safety improvements where Route 202 intersects with Old York Road in Branchburg, Somerset County. This project will permanently close the U-turns at the intersection in both the northbound and southbound directions, mill and pave the roadway, reconstruct curbs, and improve median drainage.

The project is expected to be completed in late spring 2025.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
