Somerset Parks Jobs: Rangers, Tech Manager

These jobs at the Somerset County Park Commission have starting salaries ranging from $27,700 to $71,400.

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — The Somerset County Park Commission is hiring for several full time and seasonal positions, according to their website. People experience in information management, maintenance, park ranger work and other fields may be interested in some of these positions.

They're also hiring for seasonal positions. From park rangers to maintenance workers, there's plenty of variety. Below are the positions listed, plus their description, as obtained from the commission's website.

Seasonal Park Ranger
Seasonal position working with the fulltime Park Ranger staff in parks. Duties include foot and bike patrols, traffic control, parking, and trail work. Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts. Must be 18 years of age or older and have a valid driver’s license. Two years of college is preferred, with a major in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Parks Management, or a closely related field. A combination of college and job experience is considered preferred as well.

Seasonal Maintenance Workers, Parks
Seasonal position working with fulltime maintenance staff in parks. Duties include mowing, trash removal, and turf maintenance. Experience with hand tools and landscaping equipment a plus. In addition, Mountain View Park in Hillsborough and the Torpey Athletic Field Complex located in Bridgewater are seeking seasonal maintenance staff to assist in day to day field maintenance. Job duties include pre and post-game work; mound/home plate and bullpen maintenance; mowing, edging, and painting foul lines; dragging infields and warning tracks; irrigation and hand watering; and aeration, topdressing, and seeding. Applicant must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, must be able to take written and oral direction from supervisory staff. Work week is Monday through Friday and some weekends and holidays. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Seasonal Greensworkers
Seasonal positions working with fulltime maintenance staff on Somerset County golf courses. Experience with turf equipment and gas powered hand tools preferred, but not required. Duties include, but are not limited to, mowing specific areas of golf courses, bunker maintenance, weed trimming, and watering. Applicant must enjoy working early morning hours, working outdoors, and be available for weekend and holiday shifts. This is a three to six month term of employment, running from April through October.
