2 Cars Stolen From Chatham Borough After Burglars Break Into House

Two vehicles were stolen from a Chatham driveway after the adjoining residence was entered early Sunday morning, police said.

CHATHAM, NJ — Two vehicles were stolen from a Chatham Borough driveway after the adjoining residence was entered early Sunday morning, authorities said.

The theft took place at a residence on Chandler Road during the early morning hours, borough police said, adding that the home was entered in order for the subject(s) to locate and steal the keys to two cars.

A third vehicle at another Chandler Road residence was also burglarized.

"Please remember to stay vigilant and secure your homes and vehicles. Please activate your home and vehicle burglar alarms," police said.

The suspects broke into the house through an unlocked back door and stole the vehicle keys from inside. The suspects stole the two locked vehicles from their driveway with keys in hand.

There was no confrontation between the homeowners and the burglars. This investigation is being conducted collaboratively by Chatham Police, the Morris County Sheriff's Office, and the Morris County Prosecutor's Office.

In neighboring Chatham Township, there were three attempted home burglaries on Sunday morning.

According to police, between 3:45 and 5:30 a.m., suspects attempted to break into one residence on Wickham Way and two residences on Crestwood Drive but were unsuccessful.

Surveillance video shows the suspect attempting to enter homes through unlocked doors. One attempt was made through an unlocked window, but the family dog scared the suspect away before he entered the house, Chief Thomas Miller said.
