Shell Casing Found In Chatham Middle School
The round was found in a school hallway by a custodian, police say.

CHATHAM, NJ — An expended ammunition round was found by a custodian in the hallway at Chatham Middle School on Monday afternoon, Chatham Borough police said.
The shell casing was given to the principal and School Resource Officer Brian Stanton, who immediately notified the police.
The Chatham Borough Police Department and the Morris County Sheriff's Department Emergency Services Unit and K9 Unit were all called to the scene.

Authorities searched the building, and a shelter-in-place was set up at the school out of caution.
The search revealed no additional threats, and the shelter-in-place order was lifted shortly after it was implemented.

The cause of the shell casing in the hallway remains unknown, Chief Brian Gibbons said.
