Chatham Man Sentenced In July 4 Stabbing Attack

Brian Kozub, 39, of Chatham, has been sentenced in connection with a stabbing that occurred on the Fourth of July.

CHATHAM, NJ — A Chatham Township resident was sentenced to state prison after pleading guilty to stabbing another man during a Fourth of July party in town, authorities said.

Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll announced that on Tuesday that Brian Kozub, 39, has been sentenced to five years in state prison after pleading guilty to second-degree aggravated assault

Kozub will have to complete 85 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole, according to Judge Ralph E. Amirata.

According to the police, Kozub was also ordered to have no contact with the victim.

Kozub stabbed a 51-year-old man in the neck with a pocketknife during a get-together at Buxton Road home on July 4, according to a statement from the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

The man, who was not identified, was taken to Morristown Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition and had sustained "serious bodily injury," officials said.

The motive behind the attack has not been made clear by the police.

Kozub has been detained at the Morris County Correctional Facility since his apprehension, Carroll said.
