Man Seeking Lost Cat Wasn't 'Luring Incident,' Cops Say

Chatham police said Monday an incident in which a man asked a pair of 12-year-old boys over the weekend if they had seen his lost cat was not a luring attempt.

Police had sent an alert Sunday about a possible child luring incident, saying a woman told authorities her son and his friend were on their way home from Dunkin Donuts when they were approached by a man driving an SUV.

The man asked the boys if they had seen his cat, and then asked them where they live, the alert said.

After the alert was sent, a resident called police to let them know he did ask the boys if they'd seen the lost cat, and it wasn't a luring attempt.

The follow-up message from police is below.

"Good Morning. Please disregard yesterday afternoon's AlertChathamBorough message. After the message was sent out a resident called Police after hearing our message, to say he had lost his cat and he had asked the boys if they had seen the cat.
