National Bagel Day: These Are Chathams's Best, Patch Readers Say

This Monday was National Bagel Day. Patch asked, and readers spoke out on what the best bagel around is. Here's Chatham's best.

CHATHAM, NJ — As part of an old, unspoken rivalry between two neighboring states, New York has long claimed to be the world's bagel capital, but many New Jerseyans would disagree.

In honor of National Bagel Day, which occurred this Monday, we wanted to know: Where can you get the best bagel in and around Chatham?

With so many places to try in the area, it makes sense that readers couldn't come to a consensus on a singular best place. However, there were two overwhelming responses that many readers agreed on, and those were Chatham Bagels and Gabe's Bagels.

"Gabe's Bagels in Chatham Township not only makes the yummiest, chewiest bagels, but on Wednesdays, they donate their fresh, leftover bagels to the community through the Food Distribution at the Chatham United Methodist Church so that food insecure families that pass through the food line get several fresh bagels for their families," one reader said.

Another reader stated that Gabe's Bagels were "plump, nice crunch especially when you get to the shop when they’re fresh from the oven."
