Red Bulls Soccer Club Signs Chatham's Zach Ryan
Ryan, a four-year-letterman at Stanford University, was signed to Major League Soccer with the New New York Red Bulls.
CHATHAM, NJ — Zach Ryan, who was a four-year-letterman at Stanford University and student in Chatham High School’s Class of 2017, was signed to the New York Red Bulls soccer club on Thursday.
The Bulls announced they signed Ryan - who while a forward at Stanford made 73 appearances and 67 starts - to an MLS Homegrown, one-year deal, with option years in 2023, 2024 and 2025, according to the Bulls.
Ryan, 22, was also a player with the Red Bulls Academy between 2013 and 2017, having scored 20 goals in 38 appearances, helping the teams to take three Northeast Division Championships between 2013 and 2015.

“We are pleased to add Zach to our group of Homegrowns,” Head of Sport Kevin Thelwell commented in a news release.
“He has seized his opportunities at both the academy and collegiate level,” Thelwell added. “We hope to see him continue to raise his level with us.”

While with Stanford’s Cardinals, they became the 2018 and 2020 PAC-12 Champions. When he captained the team during his senior year, Ryan was part of the All-PAC 12 First Team, Second Team All-Region and SoSIDA Anaemic-All American First Team.
In 2020, he additionally received honors as All-PAC 12 Player of the Year, along with All-PAC 12 First Team, United Soccer Coaches All-Far West Region First Team and All-America First Team.
In 2018 he achieved All-PAC 12 Second Team and in 2019, All-PAC 12 Honorable Mention.
“Zach has been playing top level at Stanford,” said Bulls’ Head Coach Gerhard Struber. “We hope to see him build upon those successes in preseason and gain good experience with us and Red Bulls II.”
