Sundae Sales Support Performing Arts In Chatham Schools
Scoops The Chatham Creamery is teaming up with Chatham's Performing Arts Boosters for two February sundae promotions.
CHATHAM, NJ — Olaf and Oompa Loompas are planning to make appearances in Chatham, both onstage and in ice cream sundaes, during the month of February.
Students at Chatham Middle School are hitting the stage for "Frozen Jr.," while Lafayette School fifth graders star in their first musical, "Willy Wonka Jr." The Frozen Jr. themed sundae is "Olaf’s “Sunny Day Sundae." The sundae for Willy Wonka Jr. is the “Fudgemallow Delight Sundae."
In celebration and to raise funds for the Chatham Performing Arts Boosters, Kate and Terry McCabe — the owners of Scoops The Chatham Creamery — have created sundaes with the boosters group, with themes from each of the shows. The group came up with the sundae ideas, Terry McCabe told Patch in a phone interview, and the Creamery designed the final sundae.

For each of the special sundaes sold in February, the Creamery plans to donate $1 to the Chatham Performing Arts Boosters, McCabe said.
"We requested an Olaf-themed sundae — because who doesn't love Olaf?" Janine Vecciarelli, president of the Chatham Performing Arts Boosters wrote to Patch in an email.

"We suggested either 'Olaf’s Snow Day Sundae' or 'Olaf’s Sunny Day Sundae,'" Vecciarelli said. "Scoops chose the 'sunny day' theme… and we are so glad they did, because it’s amazing — complete with Olaf lounging under a cocktail umbrella on gram cracker crumb 'sand.'"
For the Willy Wonka Jr. sundae, she said the boosters group reached out to Dana Goodstein, the the show's director, to ask what the students suggested.
"She [Goodstein] told us the kids love the idea of the "Whipple-Scrumptious Fudgemallow Delight” Wonka Bar," Vecciarelli said. "This is the Wonka Bar in the show that contained Charlie's Golden Ticket."
"We asked Scoops if they could create a Fudgemallow Delight sundae — and they came up with that incredible sundae, which they modeled after Willy Wonka’s iconic Oompa Loompas," she added.
The sundae in honor of Frozen Jr. has Graham Cracker crumble "sand,” S’mores ice cream, whipped cream with blue and white sprinkles and a chocolate "Olaf" with Mike and Ike nose and candy eyes. Olaf stays in the shade with a cocktail umbrella.

The Fudgemallow Delight Sundae will be made with chocolate and vanilla twist, hot fudge, chocolate chips, whipped cream with chocolate drizzle and green and purple sprinkles. A chocolate dipped marshmallow with green sprinkles completes the sundae.

"Chatham is such a wonderful community,” McCabe told Patch. "We're so happy to have the opportunity to support the students, parents and teachers involved in these productions."
Chatham Middle School’s performance of Frozen Jr. is scheduled on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the middle school auditorium. The Thursday show is at 6 p.m., Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 7 p.m.
Lafayette School students are planning to perform their first musical at Chatham High School on Friday and Saturday, both showtimes at 7 p.m.
