14-Year-Old Charged In NJ Teen’s Shooting Death: Prosecutors

A 14-year-old has been charged in the fatal shooting of another teen in a South Jersey city last month, prosecutors said.

CAMDEN, NJ — A 14-year-old boy from Camden has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 14-year-old Dai’meon Allen last month.

Allen, of Lindenwold, sustained a gunshot wound in the area of the 1800 block of Mt. Ephraim Avenue in Camden City around 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 3, Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Camden County Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez said in a joint statement. He was transported by emergency personnel to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead less than an hour later.

Allen had been attending a birthday party event at the Elks Lodge on Mt. Ephraim Avenue earlier that night, MacAulay and Rodriguez said.

The 14-year-old subject was taken into custody following an “extensive investigation” by detectives from Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and Camden County Police Department, MacAulay and Rodriguez said.

The teen will be held at the Camden County Juvenile Detention Center pending a court hearing.
