5 Hospitalized, 2 Critical In South Jersey House Fire: Officials

1 occupant jumped from a second-floor window before firefighters arrived on the scene, officials said.

PENNSAUKEN, NJ — Five individuals were hospitalized, including two in critical condition, after an early morning Memorial Day residential fire in Pennsauken, officials said.

The Pennsauken Fire Department was dispatched to the 3000 block of Finlaw Avenue shortly after 5 a.m. Monday for a reported dwelling fire, the department said in a statement.

At the scene, first responders observed “heavy fire conditions” on the first and second floors with a person confirmed to be trapped in the basement, the department said.

An “aggressive interior search” was conducted, and the occupant was rescued from the basement. Another occupant jumped from a second floor window before firefighters arrived on the scene, officials said.

Five individuals were taken to area hospitals, including two individuals listed in critical condition; 3 were listed in stable condition.

The fire is under investigation by the Pennsauken Fire Marshal’s Office and the Camden County Fire Marshal’s Office.
