NJ Teen Fatally Stabbed On New Year’s Day, Man Charged: Prosecutor

A South Jersey man has been charged in the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old boy on New Year's Day, authorities said.

CAMDEN, NJ - A South Jersey man has been charged in the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old boy on New Year’s Day, authorities said.

Jonathan Flores-Chila, 20, of Camden City, was charged with aggravated manslaughter and weapons offenses in connection with the incident, Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Camden County Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez said in a joint statement.

At around 2:54 a.m. on Sunday, Camden City police officers responded to a 911 call of a person stabbed at the 3000 block of Mt. Ephraim Avenue, MacAulay and Rodriguez said. At the scene, officers found a 16-year-old suffering from stab wounds.

He was transported to Cooper University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 3:50 a.m., MacAulay and Rodriguez added.

Flores-Chila was later arrested and charged following an investigation by detectives of the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and detectives of the Camden County Police Department. He will be transported to Camden County Correctional Facility when he is released from the hospital, authorities said.
