Shoplifting Turns to Robbery in Marlton, Police Say

Two Philadelphia residents allegedly attacked ShopRite employees in an incident Saturday afternoon.

A pair of alleged shoplifters who were wanted fugitives from Philadelphia ended up with more serious charges after attacking store employees as they tried to run from ShopRite on Route 70 in Marlton Saturday afternoon, Evesham Township Police said.

Carmell Green, 49, and Syretta Lewis, 40, were trying to walk out with $900 in merchandise they’d concealed, police said, when store employees tried to stop the pair.

Green and Lewis fought with the employees, police said, and Green was able to run from the store, though Lewis was stopped and held inside ShopRite.

Evesham officers who responded to the scene found Green next door, hiding in the bathroom of PetSmart, police said.

Both Green and Lewis gave officers fake names, police said, but they were later identified as wanted fugitives on parole and shoplifting violations in Pennsylvania.
