GARWOOD, NJ — Founder of Barstool Sports Dave Portnoy paid a visit to a Garwood pizza shop for his most recent "one bite" pizza review.

Portnoy, also known as "El Presidente," stopped by Nola's Osteria & Pizza at 304 North Avenue on Monday to try the pizzeria's classic cheese pie.

Owner Marc Spagnola and his son can be seen anxiously watching Portnoy as he tries a slice and reviews the pizza in this Facebook video.

A barber next door told Portnoy that he would rank the pizza a "high 8" and that it's better than DeLucia's in Raritan. Portnoy previously gave DeLucia's a near perfect 9.

After taking several bites of the piping hot pizza, Portnoy said, "I'm a big fan of this style. I like it thin, I like it crispy... This is really good stuff."

He noted that there was "no flop" and that the pizza was "cooked perfectly."

His final ranking? A 7.8, he said. This ranks slightly above his recent reviews of four Morris County pizzerias.

Portnoy also tried one of Nola's "Warrior" pies, which the owner said the restaurant is known for. This pizza is a super thin crust cooked crispy in pan with a special blend of mozzarella, plum tomatoes and fresh mozzarella topped with oregano, parmesan cheese and evoo, according to the restaurant's menu.

But Portnoy said the original pie was crispier and gave the Warrior a 7.7.

According to Nola's website, Spagnola previously owned the “Original La Cucina Ristorante & Seafood Grill” on Essex Street in Millburn and has 30 years of experience in the Italian restaurant industry.
