​Coyote Sighting, Residents Warned To Be On Alert In Union County

Clark Police offer tips for residents in case they encounter a coyote.

CLARK, NJ — A coyote sighting was reported in Clark on Friday.

The coyote was spotted in the area of Victoria Drive.

"Residents advised to be on alert especially if walking pets during dawn, dusk, and night hours," said Clark Township Police Department.

What should you do if you encounter a coyote?

  • Immediately pick up children and pets. Then implement the hazing strategies provided below. Once you start hazing do not stop until the coyote has left the area. Do not attempt to haze a coyote that is cornered, injured, or has pups. Never turn your back or run from a coyote.
  • Make yourself as large as possible. Stand up straight and wave your arms over your head.
  • Make loud noises. Scream, yell or whistle.
  • Be forceful and direct your voice at the coyote.
  • Be animated.
  • Take steps toward the coyote. Be aggressive.
  • Always look directly at the coyote. Never turn your back to it or run away.
  • When walking, carry an item like a walking stick and/or air horn.
