Infants Taken To Hospital After Cars Overturn On Garden State Parkway In Union County

Multiple vehicles overturned and went off the highway into the woods on July 4th.

CLARK, NJ — Infants were taken to a hospital following a multiple-vehicle crash on the Garden State Parkway in Clark.

On July 4 at around 8:45 p.m., the Clark Fire Department responded to the Garden State Parkway north ar milepost 136.7 for a motor vehicle accident involving multiple vehicle overturns.

Based on a preliminary investigation, a BMW sedan, a Kia minivan, and an unknown vehicle were traveling northbound on the Parkway, said Sht. Jeffrey Lebron.

The unknown vehicle sideswiped both the Kia and the BMW, causing both vehicles to run off the road to the right and into a ditch, said Lebron.

The unknown vehicle fled the scene prior to the troopers’ arrival, said Lebron.

All occupants were removed before the arrival of firefighters, said the fire department.

Firefighters "secured the vehicles and removed the car seats from one of the vehicles so the infants involved could be safely secured in the ambulance while en route to the hospital," according to the fire department.

Minor injuries were reported. The crash remains under investigation, and no additional information is available at this time.
